Long Range Cordless Phone to help refugees

united nationa in burundi
Between 2003 and 2004, AFRIKANET provided Long Range Cordless Phone for United Nation in order to facilitate the communication of the staff during a mission in Burundi. This LRCP solution allowed keeping the staff in touch between them across the different operation and refugee camps.

About United Nation in Burundi

The Security Council adopted resolution 1959 mandated the new UN Office in Burundi (BNUB) to run for an initial 12-month period, starting on 1 January 2011, to support the Government in strengthening the independence, capacities and legal frameworks of key national institutions, in particular the judiciary and parliament; promoting dialogue between national actors; fighting impunity and protecting human rights.

Many Governments in the Central Africa and Great Lakes sub region have made great strides towards socio-economic development and institutional stability, both at national level, as well as in efforts towards subregional integration which create a huge numbers of refugees in their own country. While endeavoring to ensure that refugee rights are upheld, particularly those of people with specific needs including women, children and the elderly, and providing refugees with life-saving assistance, UNHCR’s strategies for the subregion will continue to focus on the search for durable solutions, primarily voluntary repatriation in safety and dignity, as well as local integration and resettlement.

Involve in Fighting Hunger Worldwide

Wolrd Food programme
For a good performance of the mission of World Food Programme, and having a good logistics, Afrikanet provided its wireless equipment and Long Range Cordless Phone solution between spot where the food was delivered in order to assure a well running of all the operations and the safety of the staff.

About the project:

The World Food Programme is the world’s largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. Born in 1961, WFP pursues a vision of the world in which every man, woman and child has access at all times to the food needed for an active and healthy life. We work towards that vision with our sister UN agencies in Rome — the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) — as well as other government, UN and NGO partners.

multi-ethnic volunteer group hands together showing unity

On average, WFP reaches more than 80 million people with food assistance in 75 countries each year. About 11,500 people work for the organization, most of them in remote areas, directly serving the hungry poor.

WFP’s operations in Kenya are facing severe funding shortfalls, forcing the UN agency to reduce the size of food rations distributed to refugees in the Dadaab and Kakuma camps by 30 percent, starting in mid-June.  Similarly, a shortage of funds is threatening to force cuts in the WFP-supported school meals programme, which helps keep children in school in Kenya’s arid areas and the slums of Nairobi.

AFRIKANET solution:

AFRIKANET was part of this huge project and was able to give its help in Kenya.

For a good performance of the organization, and having a good logistics, Afrikanet provided its wireless equipment and Long Range Corldess Phone solution between spot where the food was delivered in order to assure a well running of all the operation and the safety of the staff.

The wireless LAN transmits waves to different points in order to give access to internet to all the covered area.
